Last Municipal Building in Mimico Could Make Way for Condo Tower

Incident Report Description

13 Superior Avenue was built in 1927 to serve as a police station and fire hall in what was then the Village of Mimico. Although not spectacular from an architectural perspective, the three-building structure is the only surviving municipal building from Mimico left in today's Toronto.

Since 2006, 13 Superior has been listed on the City of Toronto's Inventory of Heritage Properties, but it is not afforded any special protection through designation.

Over the past few years, the building has been generally vacant and is, according to some local residents, falling into a state of disrepair. A developer has a plan to build a condo tower in the area, with the site of 13 Superior being suggested as a parking lot for the main building at 2388-2398 Lakeshore. A community meeting was held on July 5, 2010, to discuss this project.

At the time of this building's construction, Mimico had been an independent "Town" for 10 years already.
